The Biserica Sf. Mihail in Piata Unirii birthed a male of Baroque-era vim and vigour. Transylvania’s own Dracula was rebirthed on a searingly warm spring afternoon in 1992. Narvi Nicolae Aozaki was of equal parts danger as he was of charm.

Dubbed the rosy prince of thorns, or the blossoming peak of the Apuseni Mountains, he belonged to the Bánffy Palace by birthright. Where the Boyash Romani roamed, the sunny chimes of their summer bells were akin to the steps of his holy feet. Suspended in the air around him, lingering like nicotine, was the fiery — albeit young and snuffed — potential of a serpentine male who had so much to prove.

At the age of thirteen, he wandered like a holy ghost amonst the mist and mildew of the Hoia Forest, singing of conquest and fortune. Above him, ravens cawed a litany of fall dreams and at his feet, the crickets' song reached crescendo of hopes and dreams.

Often finding himself at the short end of his mother's disregard — a stoic and independent Boyash woman of eccentric drawstring cheescloth and golden hoops — his endeavours and longings were snuffed out by her realistic and relative approach to life. Never being one to allow her nihilistic voice of reason wedge itself between his goals, he didn't give up.

And by the time he was eighteen, as if he were a shimmering goldfish on display in Lake Ghoergeni, swimming lazily in milky water, his suspending translucent fins like dragon wings sought to venture for more than just the sleepy streets of Cluj-Napoca.

Staring numbly into the waves of water and the darting between the rocks, twitching, itching to escape from his murky, draconian prison, the Romanian prince — with a flower crown of Venus’ slipper and irises of Rezervația Valea Morii — had finally been set free.

Nowadays, Narvi Nicolae Aozaki is no longer the echo of footsteps along sleepy Transylvanian streets. A name held in high regard, he is the creative process behind many designer brands' editorials, magazines, photoshoots and runways.

Despite his reputation in the spotlight of Europe's fashion field, he enjoys being on his lonesome. He resides in either his homey loft in Bucharest, his Warhol-esque studio apartment in London or his equally as eccentric and kitschy penthouses in Milan or Paris.

In tow, no matter where he resides, he accompanies his hefty cream Maine Coon — Nazair — and his Fender Vintera '60s Stratocaster. Though he's never one to be so musically inclined, he enjoys passing time strumming strings with his feline friend curled up beside him during late nights.

Introverted but never a recluse, he spends his days reading and enjoying theatre in all its forms and sifting through records old and new. He is an acquaintance and colleague to many, but a friend to very few. His personal life is often kept secret, and contrary to the glitz and glamour of his work, he's never been one to kiss and tell.

In his spare time, when he isn't constantly travelling from one city to another, he enjoys finding beauty in coffee shops and florists or in late night diners and old-timey book stores.
